Study shows weight loss can prevent risk of disease such as osteoarthritis

I normally don't do medical tips. However, when I learned of this one, I knew I had to share it. A study reported in the Annals of Internal Medicine found that women who lost as little as 10 pounds dropped their risk of developing osteoarthritis by 50 percent!

Osteoarthritis, which also is known as degenerative joint disease, can begin to show up in middle age and is extremely painful. Talk to anybody who has it and they'll encourage you to lose the weight and drop the risk!

It's a good idea to store partially filled paint cans upside down. The paint will form an airtight seal and keep it from going bad. Just make sure that the lid is on tight. Recently my wife accused me of poor cell phone etiquette. After much soul searching I realized that she was right. Let me share some tips on good cell phone etiquette that we can all probably work on:

  • Turn the volume down on your ringer. You may like the melody you downloaded, but everyone else probably finds it annoying. If you carry your phone on your hip, turn it on vibrate.

  • Control the volume of your voice when you're on a cell phone. For whatever reason, people just talk much louder while on a cell phone and annoy everyone around them.

  • When you're having a face-to-face conversation with somebody and your phone rings, DON'T ANSWER IT!

Unless it's an emergency call, you're being rude to the person you're with.

Let me give you a real-world scenario:

You're cooking in the kitchen and you pour some oil into a bowl. You put the lid back on the oil bottle and put it back in the cupboard. Oil that was on the outside of the bottle now begins sliding down the glass. It pools at the bottom of the bottle and forms an oil-ring on your wooden shelf. Here's a quick tip to stop this from happening: Take a folded paper towel and wrap it around the bottle. Put a rubber band around the paper towel to hold it in place.
