Risk for prostate cancer reduces by weight loss

@ 09:51 PM (19 months, 4 days ago)
Hi friends, yesterday I read news about weight loss which is related to prostate cancer. It was suggested that weight loss can help in preventing prostate cancer. American Researchers from American Cancer Society found that losing weight can lessen the risk of an aggressive form of prostate cancer. American researchers and the Duke University Prostate Center researchers also found that men who lost more than eleven pounds had a lower risk or lesser risk for aggressive prostate cancer than men whose weight remained the same over a decade. However the obese patients have higher risk for prostate cancer as found by researchers. The study tracked the weight of nearly 70,000 men between 1982 and 1992 and after that this results were find out. This study appears to be the first to indicate that recent weight loss can decrease the risk of prostate cancer.

Long term fasting and weight loss

@ 10:07 PM (19 months, 14 days ago)

Fasting is a simple solution for loose weight but it is temporary solution for weight loss. There are no long term benefits from fasting in weight loss. After some times when you start normal diet in daily routine you will regain your weight. You can not continue fasting for longer time. According to weight loss experts “you can go on a long fast, taking nothing but juice or eating grapes or taking some other low calorie meal substitute for several weeks, and while you are on the fast you will certainly lose weight” Fasting is not easy task for long times as you sit around sipping carrot juice while the rest of your family is eating a normal diet. There are also other problems in fasting like your body requires vital nutrients and minerals which may not contain in juice. Long term fasting is also dangerous for health. So we should concentrate on exercises and drink more water rather than on long term fasting.

Another similar weight loss drugs like acomplia for weight loss

@ 12:31 AM (19 months, 26 days ago)
Hi friends, yesterday i read news about acomplia weight loss drugs. It was suggested that Merck & Co., which is developing a diet drug that works by blocking the CB-1 receptor like Sanofi's diet pill Acomplia (rimonabant), has begun a Phase III trial of its drug based on a dosage far lower than what Sanofi is trying to get approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.

While Sanofi is seeking approval of a 20 mg dose of rimonabant, and Pfizer is testing a CB-1 receptor antagonist that seems to work best at a 15 mg dosage, the highest dosage being tested in Merck's phase III trial is 2 mg. Merck, in three Phase II studies still underway of the drug it now calls MK-0364, has been testing 2 mg, 4 mg and 6 mg dosages of the diet drug against a placebo with more than 5,600 participants.

It now has launched a Phase IIb/III trial involving about 1,000 participants -- 400 of whom are getting the 2 mg dose, with 200 getting a 1 mg dose, 200 getting a .5 mg dose, and 200 getting a placebo -- suggesting it has concluded that lower may be better. Merck, which has had nothing to say publicly abouts its CB-1 receptor antagonist, was shown a copy of this story and declined comment.

But the consent forms Merck has had patients sign to participate in the Phase III trial state that dosages of MK-0364 ranging from .5 mg to 600 mg or a placebo have been given in various trials to more than 6,000 participants. While most of these participants were in Phase II trials as short as 12 weeks and as long as two years, the number of patients involved in these studies gives Merck a body of experience with CB-1 receptor antagonists -- and their possible side-effects -- that rivals the clinical trial experience of Sanofi.

With Acomplia stalled at the FDA for reasons widely believed to be centered on concern over side effects, it is interesting to note that many of the side-effects for MK-0364 cited in the Merck consent form were similar to those reported for rimonabant -- nausea, mood-swings, anxiety and depression.

But several other side-effects reported by Merck are worth noting.

One patient, who as part of a dosing study apparently was given a single 100 mg dose of MK-0364, developed "a severe rash and itching, which are symptoms of Stevens-Johnson syndrome (severe rash with blister-like areas). This patient fully recovered after treatment with corticosteroid therapy. . ."

In the three ongoing studies of the 2 mg, 4 mg and 6 mg dosages of MK-0364, Merck said:

  • "Four participants were diagnosed with depression and suicidal thoughts. The study doctors considered these diagnoses serious, severe, and related to the study drug."
  • "Three participants had seizures. One of these participants had a history of surgery for a brain tumor; another participant had a history of seizures, and the third participant had no history of seizures."
  • "Two participants have died. One participant died suddenly, and researchers believe an abnormal heart rhythm played a part in the death. The study doctor thought the death was 'possibly drug related.' The second participant died from a severe blood infection, which the study doctor thought was 'definitely not drug related.' "

Weight loss by diabetes drugs acomplia rimonabant

@ 07:24 PM (19 months, 27 days ago)
Hi friends, yesterday I read a news about the new diet drugs acomplia rimonabant.  This weight loss solution helps to improve blood sugar as well as weight loss for type 2 diabetes patients. According to a recent studies It was found that the drug also had an effect on other risk factors such as levels of good and bad cholesterol, blood pressure and triglycerides. This research includes 278 patients from 56 centers in united states. The patients including in this study, called SERENADE (Study Evaluating Rimonabant Efficacy in Drug-Naive Diabetic Patients), were not taking any other diabetes medications for their diabetes and obesity. The findings were presented at the World Diabetes Congress in Cape Town, South Africa. This was also stated by researcher in this study. "The management of type 2 diabetes should not only focus on controlling blood sugar levels but also improve other risk factors such as weight, good and bad cholesterol, triglycerides and blood pressure," Dr. Julio Rosenstock, director of the Dallas Diabetes and Endocrine Center at Medical City and clinical professor of medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School at Dallas, said in a prepared statement. "This study suggests that rimonabant can achieve improvement in blood glucose with the added benefit of significant weight loss and improvement in other risk factors," said Rosenstock, who was an investigator in the SERENADE study. Rosenstock also said "Some current medications for type 2 diabetes are often associated with weight gain. The fact that blood sugar levels were reduced along with weight loss and improvements in HDL ("good") cholesterol and triglycerides may further support the novel mechanism of action of rimonabant, which is different from the mode of action of current oral anti-diabetic medications,".

Diet Pills - not a real appetite suppressants

@ 08:07 PM (20 months, 1 day ago)
Hi friends, According to weight loss expert diet pills are good option for losing weight if you are in serious stage of obesity. We generally read various weight loss advertisements in which it states that "reduce weight in just one months" or "lose 10 pounds in one day". These all advertisements are fake and bogus. There is no such method or program physically exists that lose weight in one day. According to weight loss experts lose weight by diet pills like phentermine and acomplia is helpful if you are undergoes serious overweight. Weight loss specialists generally have the view about weight loss information that if you have a control over your appetite, you can lose weight, without any extra burden on your body. The main task of acomplia or phentermine diet pills are to suppress appetite and hence lose weight. As we all know   specially obese patients or people related to the word "obesity" that there is a wide list of appetite suppressants or natural appetite suppressants, which are available in the weight loss drug market. But if we view all these drugs in depth than we will find that these drugs reduce weight only for a short time. if an obese patient is unable to change their habit of overeating or continously eating than he/she reduce weight only for short time by diet pills. One thing is also i mentioned in that posting i.e. side effects of weight loss drugs. If we make a decision to take diet pill course than we read all side effects and precaution of diet pills firstly. So we can says that "diet pills - not a real appetite suppressants".
